Mommy & Me

I created this layout for the October 21st sketch challenge at The Studio Challenges!   While cleaning out my stash I came across some beautiful papers and embellishments by Glitz Designs, Beautiful Dreamer and chose to work with a picture of Julina and her daughter Zoey.
Here is the sketch I worked with:
I replaced the hearts in the sketch with a rose stencil and some modeling paste:

Some Prima flowers from my stash along with some Purple Pumpkin embellishments; fabric buttons, satin flower and a crochet doily.

A Delightful Day

Happy Saturday everyone!  Hope everyone is well and enjoying the weekend.  Here on the east coast, everyone is on edge keeping track of Hurricane Sandy which is expected to make landfall in the next few days.   Forecasters are expecting high winds and heavy rain with flooding.  Yikes!!!  Sure hoping that good old Sandy takes a turn to the east and heads out into the ocean, but looks as though the area where I live is in the path of it's direction. I'm trying my best to get some posts up and scheduled just in case I loose my electricity.  Well I guess that's enough of the doom and gloom.  On to something happier, as I've got a layout to share with you that I made using my October kit from Artful Delight.
My friend and her husband enjoying the sites in New York City.  They took a tour on a double decker bus and enjoyed the sites from the upper level.

I really enjoyed working with this kit and love the My Minds Eye papers and love all of the embellishments!

Happy Halloween

I'm excited to share with you my first layout as a new member of the Purple Pumpkin Design Team!

I worked with Purple Pumpkin's October sketch which I rotated:
You have until the end of the month to complete this Sketch Challenge and link it up on Purple Pumpkin's  sidebar by midnight 31st of October 2012. There will be two fabulous Purple Pumpkin prize packs to give away - one winner will be chosen by the design team, and the second will be a random prize draw.
Everyone has a chance, even without using PP products!

I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my Purple Pumpkin DT goodies, so I dug into my stash and used a few of their products on my layout.  Lots of new products are available.  Check out the blog post here and shop in their store here.

Here I used a vampire button:

and here I used a Purple Pumpkin green doily and black spotty button
which I added a few colored flat back pearls:

I added some paint splatters, some stamping and machine stitching to my layout:

You Are The One And Only You

Hope everyone has been enjoying the weekend.  Yesterday was cold!  We had our first heavy frost and temps varied from the 40's to the 50's during the day.   Today it is suppose to hit the 70's.  Crazy weather for this time of the year.  I finished up a layout the other day using my October kit from Artful Delight along with their October sketch.   Another picture of Zoey, isn't she cute?  The title is so befitting of her!

Here is the sketch, which I rotated.

Capture The Good Times

I'm really enjoying adding some mixed media to my layouts.  Still taking baby steps though.  Love the texture it adds to the layout.  I create this layout using the October sketch at Once Upon A Sketch and Bellaidea's Butterfly Challenge at Inkido.  Lately I've been creating layouts for my friend Julina.  I think her first album is just about full and I know that there will be more to follow.  I love looking through her pictures on Facebook and  found one of her youngest, Zoey and fell in love with it.

Here is the sketch:
and their theme is the following quote which you can interpret any way you like
I drew from the words capture the good times.

Some masking using modeling past and a touch of  pink ink:

The required journaling.
Mine is hidden as it is a personal message from Julina to her daughter.
You can see a little bit of it here:

And a beautiful cluster of flowers that I had in my stash by Recollections and a little pebble by Prima.  Loved how well they coordinated with the Bo Bunny Country Garden papers!

Some good news to share . . .

Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend.  The cold weather made its way here over the weekend and ushered in temps in the 50's.  All I can say is brrrr!  Hard to believe that a couple of days ago it was in the 80's.  Not quite ready for the cold weather yet.

I do have some good news to share.  I made the design team at  The Purple Pumpkin.  I'm super excited and can't wait to work with their fabulous embellishments.  You can check out the DT announcement here

That's it for now.  I have a couple of layouts I've been working on that I will be sharing with you this week.

Thanks for stopping by!

Taking Baby Steps Into The World Of Mixed Media

I've long admired many a blogger who uses varies mixed media techniques on their layouts.  I told myself that I wanted to give it a try, and take baby steps into this new adventure.  I started working on this layout last night and was pleasantly surprised at how easily it came together.  I used the September Challenge #4 at Once Upon A Sketch/CSI, the New Challenge Word "Touch" at Bird Is The Word, and Keren's Mixed Media Challenge at Berry71Bleu.
For the month of September Once Upon A Sketch joined forces with CSI and here is the 4th Challenge:
This is how I solved the case:
Evidence: Birds, Leaves, Little bits and pieces, Rub-Ons, Book Page
Testimony: Journaling on my photograph

I will admit that I was a little intimidated with the whole prompt at first, but everything fell into place quite easily.  It does make you really think about what you are doing!

Here are a few close ups:

Journaling on my photograph:

I brushed some gesso on the flowers and added some clusters of rub-ons. I also added stitching rub-ons all around my page.

Mixed Media:
Texture paste, stamping and painting!

And the final touch, some Prima Resistable Canvases which I inked and then stamped:

Now that I've got one under my belt, I think I will give it a try again soon.
